The race to secure Team England’s place in the men’s and women’s tournaments at Birmingham 2022 is a hotly contested one. When Beach Volleyball made its Commonwealth Games debut in 2018 on Australia’s Gold Coast, Jake Sheaf/Chris Gregory and Jess Grimson/Victoria Palmer were the chosen pairs and progressed to the semi-finals and quarterfinals, respectively.
With a burgeoning home Beach Volleyball scene, there is now an even larger group of rising stars fighting for the chance to represent their country. That will come down to the final matches at the Commonwealth Games Selection Tournament on May 29, when there will be just 60 days to go until Birmingham 2022.
Rob Payne, Interim Deputy CEO of Volleyball England, said: “Our Commonwealth Games Selection Tournament is the biggest Beach Volleyball milestone to date in our pre-Games build-up. Deep Dish Crystal Palace is a key legacy venue from London 2012 and it will provide a fantastic setting with an electric atmosphere for fans and our top athletes vying for the chance of playing at Birmingham 2022. Outside of the Commonwealth Games themselves, on the domestic scene it doesn’t get much bigger than the Selection Tournament, which will really show why Beach Volleyball will be one of the highlights of this summer’s games.”

Teams will be seeded into one of two pools per tournament. The winner of each pool will earn themselves a place in the semi-finals leaving the remaining teams to fight over the other final semi-final spots. On the final day of action, with 60 days to go until Birmingham 2022, it will be decided which two teams will lead the charge in front of a home crowd.
