We're reaching the final stages of the Paris Olympics Beach Volleyball tournaments and teams from Europe are dominating the brackets with 5/8 eight teams in the men's competition and 4/8 in the women's qualified in the quarter-finals.
In the men's competition, Europe is guaranteed to have two teams in the semi-finals, with two out of the four quarter-finals matches being an all-European affair. Later this afternoon, the first match of this stage of the competition will see the German pair Ehlers/Wickler face Boermans/de Groot from The Netherlands, followed by the match between the "Flying Swedes", reigning European champions and no 1 Seeded team, Åhman/Hellvig vs the Brazilians Evandaro/Arthur.
In the women's competition, today is all about the two Swiss teams, Esmée/Zoé and reigning European Champions, Hüberli/Brunner both having to face top opposition in Mariafe/Clancy (no 14 Seed - Australia) and Hughes/Cheng, the no 3 Seeded team from America respectively.
The remaining four quarter-finals matches are scheduled to take place tomorrow, 7th August with the women's competition being first on the court at the Eiffel Tower. Spain's Álvarez M/ Moreno, the lowest ranked team still in the competition (no 18 Seed) will be facing one of the favourites of the tournament, 4th-seeded Melissa Brandie from Canada, followed by the highly anticipated clash between top-seeded Brazilian pair Ana Patricia/Duda and two time European Champions, Tina/Anastasija from Latvia.
The evening will be closed by an All-European mega clash between reining Olympic champions, the "Beach Volley Vikings" Mol, A./Sørum, C. and another slightly surprising presence in this stage competition from Spain, the 18th-seeded team from Spain, Herrera/Gavira, followed by the last quarter-finals match between Cherif/Ahmed from Qatar and the American pair Partain/Benesh.
