Sofía González and Paula Soria started the programme of the semis with a clear-cut victory over the Bouza sisters, Nuria and Maria, before Teresa Mas and Aina Munar played Belén Carro and Ángela Lobato in the second semi-final, with the latter team emerging victorious.
On the men’s side, Javier Monfort and Daniel Pérez beat Daniel Moreno and Roberto Sanfélix after a very close and dramatic tiebreak. In the other semi-final, Beach Volleyball major stars Herrera and Gavira comfortably beat Raul Mesa and Zdravko Kamenov to stay in contention for yet another title.
The afternoon session treated the audience in Fuengirola to some exciting matches. Teresa Mas/Aina Munar and Daniel Moreno/Roberto Sanfélix were the winners of the women’s and men’s bronze medal matches, respectively.
Much to the delight of the fans, the top two seeds contested the women’s final and the match lived up to everyone’s expectations, with small details making the difference and Belén Carro/Ángela Lobato eventually securing their third and fourth title, respectively.
In the men’s final, Pablo Herrera and Adrián Gavira did not leave any chance to Javier Monfort and Pablo Pérez, cruising to a 2-0 victory to seal their fifth straight title in the competition.
Teresa Cetulio, head of institutional relations at MADISON Sports Marketing, and Felipe Pascual, Vice-President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, awarded the ‘MVP Ambilamp’ and ‘MVP Iberdrola’ awards to Adrián Gavira and Sofía González.
Authorities from Málaga and representatives of the main sponsors awarded the prizes to the third and second placed teams. Agustín Martín Santos, President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, and Daniel Redondo, CEO of MADISON Sports Marketing, presented the much-desired trophy to Belén Carro and Ángela Lobato, as Javier Rodríguez, CEO of Higuerón Resort, and Martín Santos awarded the newly crowned men’s national champions Pablo Herrera and Adrián Gavira.
