After two days of main draw action, 15 of the 20 duos that started the second edition of the event remain alive in the hunt for the crown and Friday will be a critical day with the field narrowing to just ten tandems.
Pool D was the only one left to be played on Thursday and it ended with duos from the Netherlands, Italy and France advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Dutch Dirk Boehlé and Mees Sengers were the winners, with 14 points, followed by Italians Daniele Lupo and Enrico Rossi, with nine, and French Youssef Krou and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat, with four.
Dirk Boehlé“The stadium is very nice and the crowd here was cheering for everyone. It’s really nice to play here, in such a great atmosphere. We won the Dutch King of the Court last month and kind of got used to playing this system, so there’s really no pressure. We feel very comfortable.”
On Friday, three quarterfinal and one playoff rounds will be played, determining the full composition of the semifinals – the top three teams in each quarterfinal round advance, as well as the top-ranked duo in the playoffs.
Quarterfinal A actually started on Thursday, but due to a storm that hit the Luxembourg City area late in the evening, it was suspended and postponed to Friday. Action resumes on Friday early afternoon at 13:30 local time with Czechia’s Ondrej Perušic/David Schweiner and Vaclav Bercik/Krystof Nemec, Poland’s Michal Bryl/Bartosz Łosiak, and France's Krou/Gauthier-Rat all returning to the court. Dirk Boehlé/Mees Sengers of the Netherlands have left the competition already after finishing at the bottom of the charts in the opening round of the quarterfinal match that was interrupted due to inclement weather.
Set to start at 18:15 local time, quarterfinal B will have Ukraine’s Sergiy Popov/Eduard Reznik, Sweden’s David Åhman/Elmer Andersson, Poland’s Piotr Kantor/Jakub Zdybek, Switzerland’s Marco Krattiger/Florian Breer and France’s Arthur Canet/Téo Rotar.
Scheduled for 19:35 local time, quarterfinal C will reunite Germany’s Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler, Italy's Lupo/Rossi, Austria’s Maximilian Trummer/Christoph Dressler, France’s Quincy Aye/Calvin Aye and Czechia’s Jan Dumek/Jiri Sedlak. The playoffs begin at 20:55 local time and all rounds will be streamed live on EuroVolleyTV.
