Teams from Austria, Switzerland, and two from Spain complete the Main Draw line-up at the men’s Montpellier 1-Star stop of the 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour after winning the deciding qualification matches today.

Javier Monfort Minaya and Pablo Perez Suarez celebrate their qualification for the Main Draw

Maximilian Trummer/Felix Friedl (AUT) were the first to secure their spot in the Main Draw as they needed two sets only (21-16, 21-19) to beat Dutchmen Matthew Immers and Erik Nijland.

In an all-Swiss duel, Simon Hagenbuch/Leo Dillier beat Nathan Broch/Flavio Sütterlin 2-0 (21-19, 21-18), even though the eventual losers showed some nice defence actions throughout the match. At this end of the game, in a display of friendship and fair play, the losers wished their compatriots the best of luck for the remainder of the competition.

Two matches featuring Spanish and French teams decided the last two tandems progressing to the Main Draw. Niels Philippe-Daniel and Florian Gosselin saved a match point but they eventually lost to Javier Huerta Pastor/Oscar Jimenez Gutierrez in two sets (21-17, 21-17). Later in the day, Javier Monfort Minaya and Pablo Perez Suarez emerged victorious from a tough battle with Timothée Platre/Calvin Ayé (11-21, 21-14, 15-13) to claim the last spot in the Main Draw. Despite the support of the local audience, no French teams managed to advance further in the competition.
