This past September 24-26, the 2023 edition of the Armenian U18 Beach Volleyball Championships was held in the newly built Beach Volleyball Academy named after Khachik Asmaryan, a former president of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) and a great contributor to the development of the sport in the Caucasus country. The competition featured 15 men’s and 10 women’s teams and followed a double elimination format contested across two courts, both equipped with high-quality sand.
The participating athletes showed great enthusiasm because access to the academy is provided to teams and clubs for free, with the aim of developing Beach Volleyball in Armenia. Team Arabkir crowned themselves the men’s U18 champions, with Team HMMD topping the charts at the end of the women’s tournament.
The top teams were awarded with cups, medals, and special gifts produced by the VFA. Before the end of the season, the VFA plans to hold several more youth championships and festivals at the academy where the number of courts shall expand to five so that it will become possible to hold international and European competitions. Moreover, from January, the academy is due to host Armenian and international Snow Volleyball competitions as well.
