An exciting 2021 Beach Volleyball season will feature another two 1-Star World Tour events on European soil. Cortegaça (Portugal) and Koropove (Ukraine) will welcome a stop of the FIVB World Tour for the very first time in history, thus helping take elite Beach Volleyball to more and more countries.

The double-gender event in Cortegaça will run from August 12 to 15 at the high-performance Beach Volleyball Centre run by the Portuguese Volleyball Federation (FPV). Even though this is the very first international event to take place in Cortegaça, last year the very same facility played host to the final stage of the Portuguese national championship. Portugal has a long and rich history in delivering World Tour events at iconic locations such as Espinho – and the country has hosted an impressive number of European and World age-group championships as well.

Koropove, a village in Kharkiv Region, will host a women-only 1-Star event from September 2-5, 2021. It is the first Beach Volleyball event of this calibre to take place in Ukraine for a long time, at least since the country’s capital, Kyiv, hosted a CEV Satellite in 2010. However, the organisers in Koropove delivered a stop of the EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour back in 2017. The 1-Star event will be a truly special opportunity for Ukrainian players to perform on home soil – with the Eastern European country having achieved much success across all European age-group competitions in recent years.

The addition of the World Tour stops in Cortegaça and Koropove follows on the earlier announcement from only a couple of weeks ago that Budapest, Hungary, would be hosting a 1-Star double-gender tournament on August 19-22 as well.

With more and more events coming up in the summer of 2021, we can say that despite the many challenges still brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, Beach Volleyball is back on track, so that more established as well as up-and-coming teams can look forward to many opportunities to test their skills on the international stage!
