Joanna 'Asia' Wolosz will be wearing the jersey of A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO for a sixth straight season – as the captain of the ‘Italian Panthers’ and Imoco have announced. Wolosz moved to Conegliano in 2017 and as one of the world’s best setters, she helped transform the team’s game and achieve unprecedented success domestically and internationally as well. Wolosz does not stand out only for her fast game, but as a true leader as well.

Wolosz has already played as many as 219 matches for Imoco - second only to libero Monica De Gennaro

With 219 caps, Wolosz is second only to libero Monica De Gennaro when it comes to the number of times a player has worn the shirt of the reigning Italian national champions and CEV Champions League Volley 2022 silver medal winners. She has contributed to winning as many as 13 trophies since joining Imoco ahead of the 2017/2018 season.

“Never in my life would I have thought I could find a team and an environment where I can feel so good and would stay for so long. I consider myself lucky because I have found a place that I really feel mine. I would not honestly see myself anywhere else, as I really like being here.”

“Ever since I joined Imoco, I have changed, I am six years older, and I have grown a lot as a person and as a player. As a player, I am very different, when it comes to my experience as well as with regard to the quality of my game. As a person, I am more mature, victories and defeats help, years go by, and I am happy that this has all happened in a place where I feel so great,” she continues.

Wolosz has been the captain of a team that has achieved unprecedented success, including the longest winning streak in women’s Volleyball history. “This makes me feel proud and privileged. Staying here for so many years and having the responsibility of being the leader of this group is a great honour for me. I was able to raise the most beautiful trophies with my teammates and I hope that this magnificent story continues,” Joanna adds.

What makes Conegliano such a special place to play Volleyball? “The professionalism of the club is exceptional, in my opinion this is the ‘secret’. Although this is still a young club, starting from the presidents to the technical staff to continue with the people working behind the scenes, everything is very professional. We players do not lack anything to express ourselves at our best and I think this is what makes this club so special. On top of this, the area is beautiful. I like everything: you can rest and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us, these wonderful hills that I call the ‘Prosecco paradise’. The people, the fans are always with us, they pamper us and make us feel warmth and support both at home and away.”

In 2021, Wolosz helped Imoco seize the Champions League trophy for the first time in their history

Joanna is currently in the USA for the opening round of the VNL with the Polish national team. “Only four days after the Champions League final I was already back at work. We have a new coach, new technical staff and many young people in the team. We are starting to create the group for this long summer and I immediately made myself available because my presence in this sense is important, there will be a lot of work to do.” After the VNL, Poland are due to contest this year’s World Championship on home soil.

Together with coach Santarelli, De Gennaro and De Kruijf, Wolosz will compose the core of the new Imoco group: “I am very happy that Robin and Monica will stay with the team. We are three veterans who have been playing here for many years. I am already excited for next season. It will be very stimulating to see the birth of a new group, but with our solid foundation and a club and coaching staff that ensure continuity and quality, it will be easier. We started our success story five years ago, and now we hope to achieve much of the same. I am sure the transfers will lead to composing a team that is still very strong and will be able to compete for any major goal. We will try to create a good feeling right away to go hunting for more trophies,” Wolosz says.

“I think we will be a beautiful team to watch, perhaps with a slightly different game, but always with the desire to fight to give the club and our fans great satisfaction. I still want to win many more trophies!”
