Greenyard MAASEIK advance to #CEVCupM 16th Finals after taking two sets in Romania
News
Even though they won their return match with Belgium’s Greenyard MAASEIK by 3-2 (22-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 17-15), hosts SCM CRAIOVA could not advance to the next round of the #CEVCupM, as the experienced Belgian team had secured a 3-1 home win last week.
The game started with MAASEIK taking control (10-15) and even if the home team almost made a comeback (19-21), the scoresheet was closed at 22-25 for the Belgian side. The second set was more balanced, with both teams fighting for the win; the score stood at 11-13 and 19-20, but Greenyard made a decisive run at the end finishing it 20-25, thus sealing the point they needed to advance to the next round of the competition. CRAIOVA won the next two sets, after the visitors made a series of substitutions. The fifth set was closely fought with the Romanian team winning it 17-15, in front of some enthusiastic 800 spectators who were delighted even if the team failed to qualify for the next round.
Danut Pascu“Unfortunately, the 3-2 win today was not enough for us, but we have to be satisfied with the result. We had two hard weeks, this being the fourth game in 10 days, one of them being the long trip to Maaseik. Now we have a short break and hope we recover in time for the next game and continue our journey in the Romanian Championship.”
