CDV Guaguas LAS PALMAS and Volley Haasrode LEUVEN will close the programme of the #CEVCupM 8th Finals on Wednesday with the Spaniards hoping to capitalise on their 3-0 away victory in order to secure their spot among the top eight teams from the competition. This re-match was initially due to take place last week, but postponed due to COVID-19 reasons. The Belgians will have to win 3-0 or 3-1 if they are to play a Golden Set that would determine the side progressing to the next round. This means that taking two sets would be enough for Guaguas to advance. The eventual winners will be playing Italy’s standout Vero Volley MONZA in the quarterfinals.

The players of CDV Guaguas are highly motivated to reach the CEV Cup quarterfinals

Yosvany Hernández, Borja Ruiz and Moises Cezar dos Santos were the outstanding performers for LAS PALMAS when the first match took place on January 12 in Leuven. The Spaniards are yet to lose a single match in 2022 and their away victory in Belgium is even more remarkable since they had to cope with some absences. The hosts are determined to reach the quarterfinals as they did last year and they have been working hard in order to keep their dreams of European glory alive.

As for Volley Haasrode LEUVEN, they travel to the Canary Islands after recovering from a COVID-19 outbreak in their camp. They will for sure fight hard to stop the winning streak of the Spanish team – whose last defeat dates back to December 17, 2020 – when they lost to another Belgian team, VC Greenyard MAASEIK, in the quarterfinals of the CEV Cup. The Belgians have nothing to lose and they will go all out from the start of the match in order to reach the Golden Set.

“The team is very focused, very excited and looking forward to this game. This type of match is very important and can break new ground. There is a lot at stake. We are much focused on getting through the tie.

Sergio Miguel Camarero
Head coach of CDV Guaguas LAS PALMAS

“We know that Volley Haasrode is a great team, they play very well, and they are going to come up with everything they can to be able to pass this round. Even so, we know that we will have our chances and we will try to get our fans to give us a hand to win because it is very important for the team. The keys will be to come out very concentrated and play with high intensity. We will try to play every point at the highest level and in the important moments, we must be very attentive. I hope that with the support of the crowd we can achieve another victory.”

“For this game I think that we are all very motivated because we are making history. If we get through, it will be a very good thing for everyone. We are coming into the game well; we are training hard and we are ready.

Moises Cezar dos Santos
Player of CDV Guaguas LAS PALMAS

“Honestly, we expect a tougher game than the one we played in Belgium. They were missing two players in the first leg who will be available for Wednesday, they will have the full squad available, and I think it will be a much tougher game. We have to be as focused as possible. The key is going to be that we continue to be at our best in serving and blocking because at home, we tend to be looser, and we should be more solid in those aspects. I hope that as many people as possible can come to watch us even given the restrictions. Hopefully they will be there because they are our seventh player.”
