Men’s MEVZA League – OK Merkur MARIBOR secure Final Four spot
News
On Saturday night, OK Merkur MARIBOR came from one set down to celebrate a 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-23) away win at UVC Holding GRAZ in their thirteenth MEVZA League match this season. As a result, the second-placed Slovenia’s reigning national champions secured their Final Four tournament spot. The confident leaders in the current standing ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and hosts SK Zadruga AICH/DOB are the other confirmed participants in this MEVZA League season’s climax scheduled for late February.
In the second match played on Saturday, SK Zadruga AICH/DOB defeated bottom-of-the-table VKP BRATISLAVA 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23) to move up to fourth place in the table on 21 points from a 7-6 win-loss record.
Zvonko Nikolic“After yesterday’s heavy loss at TJ Spartak MYJAVA, it was a very difficult away match. Therefore, I am proud of my players and that they delivered a good performance against quality opponents,”
Head coach of SK Zadruga AICH/DOB
Matus Kalny, on the other hand, was naturally disappointed. “We could and should have won this match”, VKP BRATISLAVA’s head coach said.
The men’s competition will continue on Sunday evening, when HAOK Mladost ZAGREB will be hosting TJ Spartak MYJAVA. Croatia’s reigning national champions are still in the race for a Final Four spot.
