ZAKSA made it 2-0 in Poland, Perugia extended the series to the fourth in Italy

This weekend, after a thrilling five sets, ZAKSA won the second match and managed to lead the final series by 2-0 in Poland, and using their last chance quite well, Perugia took their first victory in the final round of the Italian domestic league.

The reigning CEV Champions League Volley titleholder and this year’s SuperFinalist Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle faced off the defending national league champion Jastrzebski Wegiel in the second match of the final phase of Polish PlusLiga.

 

In front of more than 3000 spectators, both teams fought very hard, and there was a massive battle throughout the game. However, showing a more powerful performance in the tie-break set, the ZAKSA side took the match by 3-2 (20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 18-16).

 

By this critical victory, ZAKSA made it 2-0 and received an essential advantage in the final series. From now on, Jastrzebski have to win all of the remaining matches to defend their title.

 

Polish star Lukasz Kaczmarek was the most productive player, with 19 points on the winning side. American middle blocker David Smith was selected as the MVP of the clash with a total of 12 points, including four blocks and two aces. Polish outside hitter Tomasz Fornal’s 22 points were not enough for the victory in Jastrzebski.

Two CEV Champions League Volley participants, Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia and Cucine Lube Civitanova took the court against each other for the third leg of the Italian SuperLega.

 

With a 2-0 lead in the series, a victory meant the title for the Lube side, and they took the first set. However, the Perugia side showed a superior performance after then and overpowered their rival in the remaining three: (3-1: 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 26-24).

 

Therefore, Perugia succeeded in extending the series one more match and kept their championship hopes alive. The fourth match will be held this Wednesday.

Polish superstar Wilfredo Leon stood out with five aces, 62% attack percentage, and 21 points in total for Perugia. Puerto Rican opposite Gabriel Garcia and Cuban outside hitter Marlon Yant scored 11 points apiece on the losing side.

 

This weekend, ZAKSA increased the gap with Jastrzebski to the two matches after a five-set battle in the final series of Poland, Lube failed to win the series and defend their title because of the huge victory from Perugia in the third clash of the final stage in Italy.
