Throughout the weekend, we were able to watch a lot of exciting volleyball clashes in men's domestic tournaments, but the level reached the top in especially two of them: The reigning #CLVolleyM ZAKSA made an unforgettable comeback against Jastrzebski to take the Super Cup trophy this year, and Lube passed an important test opposed to Perugia in Italy, mostly thanks to the outstanding performance of Turkish Adis Lagumdzija.
The final clash of the Polish Super Cup took place, where the two top clubs of the continent, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Jastrzebski Wegiel faced off. The previous edition's champion Jastrzebski side started the match quite powerfully and found a 2-0 lead in sets. In the breathtaking third set, ZAKSA became victorious by 31-29 and extended the match. After gaining momentum from that, ZAKSA also managed to play a better game in the following two sets and won the match and trophy in tie-break (3-2: 20-25, 24-26, 31-29, 25-19, 15-12).
The Polish superstar of the winning side, Bartosz Bednorz was selected as the Most Valuable Player with his 25-point performance, including two aces and blocks. His compatriots, Alexander Sliwka (20 points) and Lukasz Kaczmarek (10 points) were the other players who led this huge victory. Seeing a well-balanced point distribution in Jastrzebski, mostly because of the quality of Benjamin Toniutti, Tomasz Fornal became the top scorer with 25 points, and four more players scored in double digits.
The other anticipated match of the week was held in Italy. The CEV Champions League Volley Men participant, Cucine Lube Civitanova, hosted Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia in the third week of the Italian SuperLega.
While the match lasted for more than 2.30 hours, the second set was quite extraordinary, finishing 35-33 in favor of Lube's side. The winner was decided in the tie-break since the score was 2-2 after the fourth one. The fifth set was nothing but spectacular, and Lube side managed to defeat their rival, taking the second victory in the third match (3-2: 20-25, 35-33, 25-21, 16-25, 22-20).
We saw so many impressive performances on both sides of the court, but one player clearly stood out: the MVP of the clash, Turkish opposite Adis Lagumdzjia, showed an impressive performance with 32 points in total and a 60% attack percentage. Tunisian opposite Wassim Ben Tara's 28 and Kamil Semeniuk's 21 points were not enough for victory in Perugia.
The weekend was also not easy for Germany's #CLVolleyM representative, Berlin Recycling Volleys. They faced VfB Friedrichshafen in the 1/8 finals of the DVV Cup and won the clash in the thrilling five-setter (3-2: 25-20, 22-25, 26-28, 25-19, 15-13).
The top teams on the continent had to play high-quality volleyball in order to receive victory this weekend in their domestic tournaments. While ZAKSA took the first trophy of the season by defeating Jastrzebski by 3-2, Lube and BR Volleys also received important victories in their domestic challenges in the tiebreak set against their strong opponents. Now, the goal is to take some rest and then start getting ready for the next fight.
