In Pool A Dinamo MOSCOW faces Olympiacos PIRAEUS for the first home match of the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League. The match causes huge interest among Volleyball fans since a couple of real superstars, i.e. Ivan Miljkovic and Semen Poltavskiy, will delight the Muscovite audience. Dinamo successfully opened its campaign last week defeating Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE of the Czech Republic whereas Olympiacos suffered a 2:3 home defeat against titleholder TRENTINO BetClic. The Greek team will be therefore desperately looking for a first victory.
After a three-year break the CEV Indesit Champions League will be back again in the Innsbruck USI hall. Hypo Tirol will face there Belgian Champion and Champions League long-runner Noliko MAASEIK. The big aim of the Tyroleans this year is it to make it to the next round and therefore to move among the best 12 teams in Europe. Noliko MAASEIK is one of the sharpest competitors for the second place after a 3:1 victory against Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA in the first round of Pool C beside big favorite Lube Banca Marche MACERATA that confirmed this role with a 3:0 win against the Tyroleans. Hypo Tirol is looking forward to play one of the most important matches up to now and the preparations run at full speed. “We need a full hall for the first really important game and will offer a great match and full efforts to our great fans and spectators“, appeals local manager Hannes Kronthaler.
Women
A great audience is expected for the first home match of France’s RC CANNES in the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League. The girls of the Riviera will face Croatia’s ZOK RIJEKA for their second game in Pool A. As already announced, Olympic champion and former world record holder Alain Bernard will be there as guest star and toss the first ball. After its shattering victory against Universitet BELGOROD, the home team will approach this match quite confidently. The hosts have given proof of their capacity to play at a high level in this competition. In comparison with the 2008/2009 season, the French team has recruited five new players who have been integrated very well and quite quickly in the team. On the other hand, ZOK RIJEKA lost its first match against titleholder Volley BERGAMO of Italy. It will be quite a difficult task for the Croats but they will surely provide the best performance for a good match.
Last Thursday the players of Enion Energia DABROWA GORNICZA played in Italy their first game ever in the European Cups. Although they failed their debut and didn’t win any set, they showed a good performance especially in the first set and confirmed that they weren’t afraid of the stars of Scavolini PESARO. Finally the major experience and the better skills of the Italian team decided the outcome of the match. On Tuesday night the Poles will have another kind of rival. ASPTT MULHOUSE of France does not boast so many Volleyball stars as Scavolini did. The game should be really interesting because the French team also lost the first match, staged at home, with a clear 0:3 against VakifGunesTTelekom ISTANBUL. Furthermore both teams are expected to fight hard for the third place in the group: this match is therefore pretty decisive to decide which team has more chances to be promoted to the next round. Polish coach Waldemar Kawka said: “If I have a look at Pool B, every team seems to be very strong but if I had to point the team which is within our reach – I will point ASPTT MULHOUSE”. The Polish players are in a good mood after their victory in the last game against Centrostal Bydgoszcz 3:1 played for the Polish league. Moreover, MVP of this game was Krystyna Tkaczewska – the libero of Enion Energia who actually made a lot of mistakes last week in Pesaro. It’s a very good sign for the Polish team, because their libero probably has forgotten the bitter defeat against Scavolini and will play against MULHOUSE with more self-confidence. The game between DABROWA GORNICZA and MULHOUSE is also the occasion to return back home for two Polish players. Dominika Sieradzan, who plays as a receiver in France, was up to the last season included in the roster of Calisia Kalisz. Anna Rybaczewski, who was born in Olsztyn, will be also back to her homeland. The third Polish face in the French team is assistant coach Teresa Worek. After their disappointing performance against the Turks, the French ladies also notched their last game in the national league against Aix Venelles 3:2, so they will resume to Poland with good spirits. The game on Tuesday night is not only the debut at home for the team. It’s also the European debut for the local great supporters who are famous in the whole country as the most numerous Volleyball fans in Poland.
