A super talented legendary middle blocker, captain of the Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul, and Turkish national team: These may describe Eda Erdem Dundar, but she is so more than that in her country, Türkiye. On March 8th, International Women's Day, the unveiling ceremony of her sculpture was organized today, which put together all the important volleyball people in her club and federation.
The idol of young girls and all successful women, Eda Erdem Dundar, expressed her feelings with quite an emotional speech and expressed her gratitude.
Eda Erdem Dundar“On the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, I have the honor of captaining our national women's team, which won all three trophies. On this particular occasion, I celebrate March 8th, International Women's Day, for all women who never give up and chase their dreams. Today, we are here, experiencing a moment so grand that even that little girl could not have dreamt of it. I stand at the unveiling of this statue, which will send the message to young girls having goals: "If I can do it, so can you.”
The president of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Mehmet Akif Ustundağ, also made a speech at this event, mentioning Eda Erdem's successful career:
Mehmet Akif Ustundag"I am happy and proud to be present at the unveiling of the statue of Eda, the pride of our country. An Eda does not come easy. As the Federation, we aim to elevate Turkish volleyball to the highest level. I thank everyone who contributed to bringing Turkish volleyball to this day and making this special day possible."
