The seventh edition of the Armenian Snow Volleyball Championships took place in Tsaghkadzor this past weekend, with participation of teams from neighbouring Georgia as well, following an agreement reached by the respective National Federations. As many as 17 men’s and 11 women’s teams did eventually feature at the competition held at Armenia’s most popular ski resort, which hosted a stop of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour in early 2020.

With double elimination format, the women and men contested in total 21 and 27 matches, respectively. Despite the extreme cold weather recorded in Tsaghkadzor, the players were able to deliver some great games. Most of the teams comprised experienced players – which accounted for a very entertaining show for those in attendance on site.

The organisers, the Volleyball Federation of Armenia, did run a special contest called ‘the best shooter’ during the championship – with a number of gifts and prizes at stake.

Team Avan-1 were the eventual winners of the women’s competition as they beat Team Van-1 2-0 in the gold medal match. On the other hand, the visitors from Tbilisi emerged on top of the men’s competition – as they beat Fima-3 in the final. Team CIU won the bronze medals as they stamped a 2-0 victory in their matchup with Team NUACA.

The top three teams of the championship received medals, cups and diplomas by representatives of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia and other authorities.

Armenia is the second country to deliver a Snow Volleyball national championship this winter – after Hungary did so shortly before the holiday season – with more due to follow in February in Greece, Slovenia and Sweden.
