There have been many changes at the top of elite national teams these days with news now coming in from Bulgaria that Nikolay Jeliazkov will be leading their men’s side. He takes over the reins of the ‘Lions’ from Silvano Prandi – with whom he previously worked as an assistant.

A former elite player, Jeliazkov previously served as assistant coach of Team Bulgaria

“Bulgarian Volleyball has always had big goals and the team achieved great results in the past. However, in recent years, the men’s national team did not quite live up to the expectations. We have a good mix of experienced players and young talents. Now we are focused on the successful qualification for Paris 2024."

After failing to qualify for Tokyo 2020, Bulgaria had to be content with 11th place at EuroVolley 2021, after losing 1-3 to Germany in the 8th Finals in Ostrava.

“The first goal is to be in the Top 8 of the VNL and World Championship. The team has my full support. We are not satisfied with our current 21st place in the world ranking. I want to be in the top 10. The Federation and Mr Prandi together agreed to end the contract. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
