Pool favourites deliver at the #EuroBeachVolley second day in Apeldoorn
2018 CEV DELA Beach Volleyball European Championship

Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, July 16, 2018. Apeldoorn continued the #EuroBeachVolley rivalry on Monday, after having hosted the competition’s opening match on Sunday, when Pool D’s and the hosting team Dirk Boehlé/Steven van de Velde defeated Italians Marco Caminati/Enrico Rossi. The remaining teams of Pool D were the first to step on the court at Marktplein, with Bartosz Losiak/Piotr Kantor claiming their first victory against Swiss duo Adrian Heidrich/Mirco Gerson. In an all-Russian game in Pool E, Maxim Sivolap/Artem Yarzutkin won against Viacheslav Krasilnikov/Nikita Liamin, while Norway’s Christian Sandlie Sørum/Anders Berntsen Mol followed with a win against French side Maxime Thiercy/Arnaud Gauthier-Rat.

Coming off their own recent gold at a 4-Star event back in Poland earlier in July, Poland’s Losiak/Kantor began the 2018 CEV DELA Beach Volleyball European Championship campaign defeating Swiss Heidrich/Gerson 2-0 (21-14, 21-16). The Swiss duo sought the opportunity to turn the score in their favour in the second set, decreasing Poland’s lead from 14-9 to 17-14, but Losiak/Kantor used a time out to regain control and deliver their first victory. The straight set win gives the Polish team a first lead in Pool D, with the Dutch team Boehlé/van de Velde staying second.

Krasilnikov/Liamin are only one of a few Russian strong contestants for the 2018 CEV DELA Beach Volleyball European Championship gold and began the competition playing against another Russian duo, Sivolap/Yarzutkin. Suffering an upset from the hands of their fellow Russian team, Krasilnikov/Liamin start their journey with difficulties in their first match in Pool E. Sivolap/Yarzutkin won against their opponent 2-0 (21-17, 21-19), and while Krasilnikov/Liamin were chasing the score, the winning team kept the momentum, remaining a few points ahead. The victory gave Sivolap/Yarzutkin second place in the pool after the first day of competition in their pool.

In the last game of the day in Pool E, Norway’s Mol/Sørum competed against Thiercy/Gauthier-Rat (FRA). The Norwegians arrived to Apeldoorn after winning their first ever gold on the World Tour, after emerging victorious at the Gstaad Major. Despite having  little time to prepare for the new competition, Mol/Sørum swept another victory, defeating the French 2-0 (21-10, 21-18). The result gives them an early lead in Pool E and a hopeful start for the rest of the competition.
