Spain, The Netherlands and Norway dominate at #EuroBeachVolley in Apeldoorn
2018 CEV DELA Beach Volleyball European Championship

Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, July 18, 2018. Pool Phase in the women’s competition has finished in Apeldoorn, with Spanish team Liliana Fernández/Elsa Baquerizo and Dutchwomen Joy Stubbe/Marleen van Iersel finishing top of Pools A and H, respectively. Both teams secured their places in the Round of 16 awaiting their opponents, who will be competing on Thursday in the Round of 24. Marta Menegatti/Laura Giombini (ITA) and Svetlana Kholomina/Nadezda Makroguzova will depart Apeldoorn, while Taru Lahti-Liukkonen/Anniina Parkkinen (FIN) and Katharina Schützenhöfer/Lena Plesiutschnig (AUT) will arrive to compete with Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude (GER) and Martina Bonnerová/Sarka Nakladalova (CZE) respectively. In the men’s competition Norwegians Anders Berntsen Mol/Christian Sandlie Sørum take the lead in Pool E after grabbing their second victory in as many matches, this time against Russians Maxim Sivolap/Artem Yarzutkin.

Women

Pool A, which had become smaller due to the withdrawal of Polish team Kinga Kolosinska/Katarzyna Kociolek, had already defined which teams would progress to the next round of the competition, but the leader position was still up for grabs. Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude were meant to play against the Polish team today, therefore their match did not take place, leaving Liliana Fernández/Elsa Baquerizo and Marta Menegatti/Laura Giombini to complete the pool schedule. The Spanish duo won against Menegatti/Giombini 2-0 (21-15, 21-17).

Pool H continued as planned, with Czech Republic’s Martina Bonnerová/Sarka Nakladalova winning both of their matches against Russian teams, defeating Svetlana Kholomina/Nadezda Makroguzova 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 15-12) and Mariia Bocharova/Maria Voronina 2-0 (22-20, 21-17). Both Russian teams suffered another loss later that day, as the hosting team Joy Stubbe/Marleen van Iersel beat Bocharova/Voronina 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) and Kholomina/Makroguzova 2-0 (21-18, 21-14). Stubbe/van Iersel ended top of the pool, having won their yesterday’s game against Bonnerová/Nakladalova, who claimed the second position. Kholomina/Makroguzova are the last team from Pool H to remain in the competition, while 2018 U20 European champions and newly-crowned U19 world champions Bocharova/Voronina leave The Netherlands without a victory.
