Moscow, Russia to host 2019 edition of #EuroBeachVolley!
2019 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship

Luxembourg, July 23, 2018. Shortly after completion of a truly history-making event held across as many as four cities in the Netherlands, the European Volleyball Confederation can proudly announce that the 2019 edition of the Beach Volleyball European Championship will be taking place in Moscow, Russia from August 5 to 11. The continental showpiece will return to the capital city of Russia for the first time since the 2005 edition. The city of Sochi played host to the European Championship back in 2009 – as a result, Russia will welcome #EuroBeachVolley for the third time since its inception back in 1993 and 1994 for men and women, respectively.

The event will be taking place at a purpose-built venue that the Russian Volleyball Federation will arrange in an area close to the iconic Luzhniki Stadium and the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, on the shores of the Moskva River.

“With their proven record of accomplishment in organising top Volleyball events, we are confident that the 2019 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship in Russia will be a truly remarkable event, which will further increase the popularity of Beach Volleyball all across Europe,” commented CEV President Aleksandar Boričić.

On Sunday night in The Hague fans in attendance got to know that the 2019 edition of #EuroBeachVolley will be taking place in Moscow, Russia

“I am proud to say that Russia will host the 2019 Beach Volleyball European Championship. It is a great opportunity for Russian sports to organise this event. Beach Volleyball is developing very fast in Russia and raising the interest of spectators and fans alike. I want to express our gratitude to the European Volleyball Confederation for their trust. We, as organisers, have great experience in holding international tournaments in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. I am confident that the tournament will be held at a very high level with tremendous support from the audience,” said Stanislav Shevchenko, President of the Russian Volleyball Federation.

Traditionally a Volleyball powerhouse, Russia have become a major force to reckon with in Beach Volleyball as well – and last year their rising stars completed an unprecedented clean sweep of all titles at stake in CEV age-group championships (U18, U20 and U22). As far as the ‘senior’ competition is concerned, Russia claimed their only European title to date back in 2006 – courtesy of Natalya Uryadova and Alexandra Shiryaeva, who secured top honours at the event held in The Hague. Evgenia Ukolova and Ekaterina Birlova won silver in 2015 in Klagenfurt while Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Konstantin Semenov secured Russia’s best result to date in the men’s tournament with silver in 2016. Dmitry Barsouk/Igor Kolodinsky won bronze in 2008 in Hamburg to add to Russia’s medal tally.

With many up-and-coming teams, Russia will certainly be willing to deliver a first-class event when hosting the 2019 edition of #EuroBeachVolley in Moscow and their players will be extra motivated to use the home-court advantage in an effort to improve their country’s record in Europe’s continental Beach Volleyball showpiece.
