Three-time European champions Lupo and Nicolai aiming high in Moscow
CEV EuroBeachVolley 2019

Rome, Italy, July 26, 2019. Three-time European champions Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai will be travelling to EuroBeachVolley in Moscow with the desire to make amends for last year’s setback at the continental showpiece event held in the Netherlands where they finished only 17th. Nicolai and Lupo are three-time-gold medallists from the event as they took the top spot of the rostrum in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Earlier this season, Nicolai and Lupo finished fifth at the World Championships in Hamburg before settling for fourth place at the 5-Star Major Series event in Gstaad, Switzerland.

“We are aware that it will not be easy to repeat the successes of the 2014, 2016, and 2017 editions,” says Paolo Nicolai. “The European Championships are a very prestigious competition where we will be playing against some highly competitive teams, so we will have to give our best in order to achieve a good result.”

His teammate Daniele Lupo echoes the same feelings: “The fact that we have won this tournament three times must not distract our attention. Last year we finished with a quite disappointing result and now we are working hard to get in the best possible shape for the start of this tournament. This season we have already been able to achieve some positive results and we must continue down this very same road,” Lupo said.

As a team, Lupo and Nicolai have claimed 19 medals from World Tour events, including gold from the Shanghai Grand Slam in 2014. Moreover, they are the silver medal winners from the Rio 2016 Olympics where they lost the gold medal match to home heroes Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt of Brazil.
