World Tour to return to Montpellier for third straight year in late August
2019 FIVB World Tour 1-Star - Montpellier

Montpellier, France, July 30, 2019. After the success of the two World Tour events organised in Montpellier in 2017 and 2018, the Helios Theater in Odysseum once again hosts a major international competition, which counts towards qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. We are at a key stage in the race for the Olympic qualification, so the organisers expect many teams to travel to Montpellier and fight for valuable FIVB ranking points.

The French team Arnaud Gauthier-Rat and Quincy Ayé are having a very good season, after securing their first national title as a team in Le Touquet, a 9th place at the 3-Star World Tour event held in Edmonton, Canada, and another 9th place at the Tokyo 4-Star Olympic test event.

Gauthier-Rat and Ayé will be aiming for gold in Montpellier, a medal that Quincy Ayé wishes to add to his collection since he has already earned silver in 2018 and bronze in 2017 from the event held in southern France. Other senior French teams will take part in the Montpellier World Tour: local stars Adrian Caravano and Romain Di Giantommaso (triple French Champion, bronze medallist from the 2014 U21 World Championship and U22 European Vice-Champion in 2015) as well as Guilhem Delon/Yannick Bole and Jeremy Ullmann/Florian Gosselin.

Moreover, the organisers Montpellier Beach Volley are planning to request a wild-card to youngsters Arthur Canet and Teo Rotar and with it an opportunity to feel the World Tour experience. They are only 14 years old and they will rub shoulders with senior teams for the first time in their career! This is part of the process of support and development of the young players currently training in Montpellier.

Teams from Japan and Thailand are likely to compete in Montpellier. These two nations have been involved in Beach Volleyball for quite some time and their teams excel especially for their technical skills. Teams from Austria, England and Norway will compose the European contingent together with tandems from Czech Republic, Serbia and Switzerland – with the Swiss being a regular feature in Montpellier. Finally, Canada and Uruguay are also going to send teams to Montpellier for the 1-Star event.
