Top Volleyball is back in Kalisz with busy European League weekend
2015 CEV Volleyball European League - Women

Warsaw, Poland, August 5, 2015. One win and one loss – such is the balance of Poland women’s national team after their first weekend of action in the 2015 CEV Volleyball European League. In their first two away matches, the Polish players faced Team Israel. This coming Friday and Saturday they play Greece, but this time it will be in their own yard.

“We have to improve our game. We had way too many mistakes in our matches against Israel,” said Poland’s head coach Wieslaw Popik. Indeed, the white and red players won the first game, 3:2 and lost the second 0:3, while making 39 and 30 own errors respectively.

Greece showed a very uneven performance in their own 1st leg matches, which marked their debut in the 2015 edition of the European League. They succumbed 0:3 in the first game with Turkey, only to win the rematch 3:1. Their coach Ioannis Kalmazidis noted that those were two totally different matches: “The second game was a totally different match. We had much more confidence in all of our actions and we played very good in block and defence.” This is the kind of play that Greece will try to show against Poland.

Both Poland vs. Greece matches will start at 20:00 local time. Before that, the same arena will feature the men’s matches starring Poland and the Former Y.R. of Macedonia. High-level Volleyball is back in Kalisz. Not so long ago the local team was winning gold medals in the country’s championship – the last ones in 2006 and 2007. The fans could see some of the top European clubs, featuring many members of the Polish and foreign national teams. Now the action is back in town and everyone’s fingers are crossed for their local heroines.
