PGE Skra BELCHATOW have to wait until Golden Set to secure their semi-final ticket
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Luxembourg, March 20, 2019.  Travelling to Russia with a 3-1 home win last week, PGE Skra BELCHATOW would have been confident.  It did not go entirely to plan for four sets, but in the Golden Set they came alive showing a confidence and composure witnessed in the first leg.  The designated Match of the Week did not disappoint, and alongside Zenit KAZAN the Polish side of PGE Skra BELCHATOW are 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League semi-finalists.  They will however have to wait until Thursday to see who they will face as Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA host Dinamo MOSCOW with a slender 3-2 advantage.

Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG (RUS) vs PGE Skra BELCHATOW (POL) 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20)
PGE Skra BELCHATOW won the Golden Set 15-11

•    PGE Skra BELCHATOW made it to the last four for the fifth time in their history, despite the Russian side matching their 3-1 win in the first match.
•    The top scorer in the match was Zenit's opposite György Grozer (28 points), while the MVP was Jakub Kochanowski from the Polish side.
•    Zenit have demonstrated a fantastic efficiency in tie-breaks this season - winning 11 out of 12 before this game - but they failed to convert when it came to the Golden Set on this occasion.
•    In the Champions Leagues designated "Match of the Week", there were 5,123 spectators who enjoyed the game, and in particular the Polish dances by the home cheerleaders, but most will have left disappointed.

Aleksandr Klimkin, head coach of Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG: "Unfortunately, we could not make it into the semi-finals. But we fought till the end and tried to do our best. Yes, we had problems with some injured players. But I don’t want to find some excuse. We made a lot of mistakes in the Golden Set, this is the main reason we lost."

Roberto Piazza, head coach of PGE Skra BELCHATOW "Of course, I’m happy now. It was an incredible win, I’m very proud of my players. Every day I try to make them better. They showed a great performance in the Golden Set. In some moments I looked for their way of playing like an amused spectator, not like a coach."
