Great team effort brings CIVITANOVA to their fourth successive #CLVolleyM semi-final

Luxembourg, March 21, 2019. Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA are the fourth and final team to have qualified for the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men semi-finals. The 3,345 spectators in Eurosuole Forum in Civitanova Marche were treated to a well-balanced team effort by the home side in beating Dinamo MOSCOW. Setter Bruno Rezende could rely on his attackers to finish what he offered them. It's the fourth Champions League semi-final in a row for the Italian side. In their last three appearances in the Champions League, Lube won two bronze medals and the silver from last year.

Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA (ITA) vs. Dinamo MOSCOW (RUS) 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21)

  • World and European vice champions Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA had to win with any result to secure the qualification for the semis, after defeating Dinamo last week in Moscow (3-2).
  • The Italian team mentored by Ferdinando De Giorgi made it to the semis for the fourth year in a row, after they won the Bronze medal in the 2016 and 2017 editions, and the Silver one last season.
  • In the semi-final, Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA will face Poland’s PGE Skra BELCHATOW. They met one time during this season, on November 26, 2018 for the first match of the Men’s Club World Championship, that took place in Poland (which ended in a 3-1 victory for Cucine Lube).
  • Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA claimed an early lead (15-10) in the opening set and were able to hold on to it (21-13) until the end (25-16), with four winning blocks for the home team, and Yoandy Leal (4) and Tsvetan Sokolov top scorers (5 points and 75% of efficiency in attack). Dinamo MOSCOW got back on track in the second set, in balance until 18-18, but in the final battle of muscles CIVITANOVA was again able to claim the victory (25-21). In the third set the Russians were leading for the first time in the match (11-14), before the home team mounted a comeback, with Jiri Kovar on the court instead of Osmany Juantorena, and the super performances of Bruno Mossa de Rezende and Yoandy Leal (25-21).
  • Yoandy Leal was the best scorer of the match with 16 points (12/18 killed attacks). MVP Tsvetan Sokolov added 15, while Dick Kooy was the top scorer for Dinamo with 12.

Tsvetan Sokolov, opposite of Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA: “We are very happy about our qualification, very important for the club management and also for the team's confidence. I think it was a high-level match from our side, and now we look forward to approaching the semi-final against BELCHATOW in the best possible way."
