NOVARA pull out Golden Set victory to shape all-Italian Super Final
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Luxembourg, April 10, 2019. Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA ended VakifBank’s reign in the CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women after a truly dramatic semi-final match – which they lost 1-3 and where they came from behind in the Golden Set to score four points in a row and secure their ticket to the Super Finals in Berlin. There will be an all-Italian gold medal match at Max-Schmeling-Halle on May 18 – the first time in the history of the competition – since Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA will be playing domestic rivals Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO for the most coveted crown in club Volleyball.

•    For the first time in their history, NOVARA will be playing the ‘grand finale’ of the CEV Champions League.
•    VakifBank ISTANBUL won the return match 3-1, but NOVARA scored a 16-14 win in the all-important Golden Set. The 1-3 coincided with NOVARA’s first loss in the competition this season.
•    NOVARA came back from 12-14 in the Golden Set to score four points in a row and secure a 16-14 victory.
•    Paola Egonu received the MVP award after scoring 39 points in the four sets plus the Golden Set. Zhu Ting was the best scorer for the visiting team with 26 points and 44% success rate in attack.
•    In Berlin, Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA will face Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO. It will be the sixth final in two seasons between the two teams: they faced each other already twice in the Italian Supercup (2017 and 2018) and twice in the Italian cup final (2018 and 2019) as well as once in the Italian league championship series (2018).
