Preliminary Pools set for U19 Women Final Round
2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship - Women

Helsinki, Finland, May 20, 2014. The DOL for the Final Round of the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship – Women scheduled for August 16-24 was held on Tuesday at the premises of Finland’s Sports Museum in Helsinki. The DOL ceremony was chaired by CEV Vice President and Jury President Jan Hronek, and attended by Finnish Volleyball Association President Arto Satonen and Estonian Volleyball Federation Secretary General Tarvi Pürn. The DOL was carried out by ESOC President Pierre Mulheims who was assisted on stage by Tiia Pohjonen, a member of the Finnish national team.

The 12 teams participating in the Final Round were drawn into two Pools of six each; after the preliminary phase the top two of each Pool will move on to the semis while the third and fourth placed will play the classification matches 5-8. The semi-finals and finals as well as all classification matches will be played in Estonia’s second largest city, Tartu.

The results of the DOL read as follows:

Pool 1 in Tartu (EST): Estonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, 1st Pool H, 2nd Best Round 3
Pool 2 in Tampere (FIN): Finland, Slovenia, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, 1st Pool I

Finland’s head coach Aapo Rantanen commented: “I think that the Pools are quite equal. Of course all teams participating in the Final Round of a European Championship are good. For us every victory in such a tournament will be a big thing. We want to play also in Tartu and to make it there we have to finish among the top four in our Pool. We have worked hard so far and after a short break in June we will then continue our preparations all the way through to the start of the Championship.”

Finland’s national team player Tiia Pohjonen added: “We are really looking forward to this European Championship taking place here in Finland. All the teams participating in this competition are of course very good. We will do our best and try to claim some victories too. We have a strong defence and we will continue to work hard to play every match at our best.”
