Asseco Resovia RZESZOW and Pomì CASALMAGGIORE to host CL Final Four tournaments
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men & Women

Luxembourg, January 28, 2016. Asseco Resovia RZESZOW and Pomì CASALMAGGIORE are the hosts of the men’s and women’s Final Four Tournaments that in early / mid April will provide the real climax of a record-breaking 2016 edition of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. The venues – Krakow and Cremona – of the Finals were announced on Thursday morning by CEV Senior Vice President Renato Arena shortly before the DOL for the Playoffs 12 of Europe’s elite club competition.

The iconic and state-of-the-art 15,000-seat Tauron Arena in Krakow, which hosted matches of the history-making FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 and that later this week will be crowning Europe’s handball champions, will provide the ideal stage for last year’s runners-up Asseco Resovia RZESZOW and another three world-class teams that will contest the men’s Final Four scheduled for April 16-17. The final act of the men’s competition is returning to Poland after the city of Lodz played host to Europe’s premier Volleyball event in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Opole had previously hosted the Final Four of the CEV Volleyball Champions League in 2002. Asseco Resovia RZESZOW will be trying to use the home advantage to become Poland’s first ever club to claim Europe’s most coveted crown and to improve on the silver medal they won last year in Berlin.

The women’s Finals will take place one week earlier in Cremona, Italy, on April 9-10 and will be hosted by rookies Pomì CASALMAGGIORE. Italy’s national champions made their debut this season in Europe’s elite competition and immediately left their mark by finishing first in Pool C, a real ‘group of death’ that included also last year’s gold medallists Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL of Turkey and Poland’s standout Chemik POLICE. The last time the CL women’s Final Four was held in Italy dates back to 2009 when Colussi Sirio PERUGIA played host to the event which ended with Foppapedretti BERGAMO claiming Europe’s most coveted Volleyball crown.

The eventual winners of this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League will get the right to represent Europe at the next edition of the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships.

The DOL for the Playoffs 12 was held under the supervision of CEV Senior Vice President Renato Arena and Mr Roman Stanislavov, President of the European Cups Commission (ECC), starting with the men’s division.

Mr Stanislavov drew the 12 teams qualified to the knock-out phase making sure that – as per the Official Regulations – maximum two teams from the same country will make it to the Final Four tournament and also by avoiding that clubs from the same League Round pool will be playing each other once more in the Playoffs 12.
