As for the 2016 CEV U19 Women / U20 Men Volleyball European Championships whose Final Rounds will be taking place in Nitra (Slovakia) and Györ (Hungary) and in Plovdiv/Varna (Bulgaria), respectively, only the organisers are directly qualified to the final stage of the competition. 34 and 33 teams have registered for participation in the 2016 edition of the U19 women’s and U20 men’s championship, with teams from Kosovo making their historic debut in the competition following provisional recognition granted to their Volleyball Federation earlier this year by the FIVB Board of Administration. 2014 gold medallists Serbia (U19 women) and Russia (U20 men) will start their campaign straight from the second qualification round scheduled for late March-early April 2016. The lowest ranked teams will open proceedings already in early January with the first qualification round set to take place shortly after the New Year’s holidays.

As for the 2017 CEV Volleyball European Championships whose Final Rounds will be taking place in Poland (men) and Azerbaijan/Georgia (women), 38 and 36 teams are entering the men’s and women’s competition, respectively. Apart from the organisers, another six (men) and five (women) teams have already secured their participation in the 2017 finals by means of their position in the final standing of the 2015 edition. The qualification process will start in May 2016 with the first round to be followed by the second stage in September, about a month after completion of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The teams were drawn by four young members of Luxembourg’s U19 women / U20 men national teams – Eric Weber, Charel Hoffmann, Cindy Schneider and Anna Vosahlo. They will enjoy the honour and opportunity to represent their country on the international stage once the teams of the Grand Duchy compete in the Small Countries Division championships which are also set to take place next year.
