36 men’s teams ready to chase Europe’s most coveted Volleyball crown
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Rome, Italy, June 9, 2016. The 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League will be a historic one with as many as 36 teams from 25 countries competing for the most coveted crown in men’s Volleyball. The revamped CEV Volleyball Champions League will be starting in early November with the matches on schedule for the second round to continue with the third in mid-November before the much anticipated Round 4 will get underway in early December. The eventual winners will be crowned at the Final Four tournament that is due to take place on April 29-30, 2017.

•    Total slots in 4th Round (formerly League Round): 20
•    Teams seeded into 4th Round: 12
•    No 1st Round will be played
•    Slots in 4th Round coming from the 2nd – 3rd Round: 8

1st – 3rd Round splitting


With 24 teams in these initial rounds, and the need to end up with eight teams to play in the 4th Round, only the 2nd and 3rd Rounds will be contested, on each occasion playing Home and Away matches with a Golden Set if necessary.



16 teams will start in the 2nd Round and the eight winners will join eight other teams seeded to the 3rd Round (according to the 2017 National Federation European Cups Ranking List) to determine the final eight teams who will compete in the 4th Round.

2nd Round


The results of the Drawing of Lots for the 2nd Round read as follows:



The first team drawn will play the first match at home.  

Winners move to the 3rd Round, losing teams move to the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup.

3rd Round

The results of the Drawing of Lots for the 3rd Round read as follows:



The first team drawn will play the first match at home.  

Each 3rd Round tie producing one team for the 4th Round is referred to as an ‘arm’ of the draw (e.g. Arm 1, Arm 2, etc…). Losing teams move to the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup.

4th Round


The 4th Round consists of double round robin pools where each team will play against all others at home and away.
