Zenit KAZAN and CSM Volei Alba BLAJ to host CL Final Fours
2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men & Women

Luxembourg, March 1, 2018. Zenit KAZAN and CSM Volei Alba BLAJ will be hosting the Final Four tournaments of this year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League for men and women, respectively. Kazan and Bucharest will be playing host to this year’s ‘ultimate Volleyball parties’ and will crown the eventual winners of Europe’s elite club competition – who will represent Europe in the 2018 edition of the FIVB Club World Championships as well. The women’s Final Four will take place on May 5-6 at Sala Polivalenta in the Romanian capital with the climax of the men’s competition following on May 12-13 at the iconic Basket-Hall in Kazan.

Zenit KAZAN have been the dominant force in the men’s Champions League for a number of years – with a record five titles (2008, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017), including three in a row, a feat equalling what Italy’s TRENTINO Volley achieved from 2009 to 2011.

The city of Kazan is known as the ‘sports capital of Russia’ after playing host to the 2013 Universiade, the 2015 edition of the FINA World Aquatics Championships and many more major international competitions in an impressive variety of Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Kazan is also home to two of the most successful Volleyball teams of the past decade – five-time CL winners Zenit KAZAN and Dinamo KAZAN, which claimed gold in the 2014 edition of the women’s competition.

The men’s Final Four of Europe’s elite club competition will be taking place in Russia for the fourth time – after Belgorod (2004), Moscow (2007) and Omsk (2013) previously hosted the event. Russian teams have used the home-court advantage to the fullest in two of such occasions – when Lokomotiv BELGOROD and Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK seized the crown in 2004 and 2013, respectively. Zenit KAZAN will be trying to delight a home crowd to claim what would be an-all time record sixth crown in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. The Basket-Hall can accommodate up to 7,500 fans.

The women’s Final Four will be taking place in Romania for the first time in history. CSM Volei Alba BLAJ turned into the major sensation of the pool stage sweeping five matches in a row in Pool A to secure first place in the group with one more round to play before losing to Volero ZÜRICH in the sixth and final leg. The event will take place in Bucharest, and namely in Sala Polivalenta, a venue accommodating up to 5,200 fans.

“We would like to thank the two clubs and their respective National Federations for their involvement and, with their proven track record in organising top Volleyball events, we are absolutely confident that the 2018 CEV Champions League Final Four tournaments will be a truly remarkable event. These will hopefully further increase the popularity of Volleyball across the whole of Europe,” CEV President Aleksandar Boričić said.

The draw for the Playoff 12 will take place tomorrow at 12:00 CET in Luxembourg, look our for more information to follow shortly.
