Romanian derby in #CEVCupW semis sparks Volleyball fever
2019 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Bacau, Romania, February 25, 2019. There is much anticipation for the all-Romanian semi-final in the 2019 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women between Stiinta BACAU and CSM Volei Alba BLAJ. These teams know each other very well from domestic competitions but this matchup is something special. Even though CSM Volei Alba BLAJ have a much larger budget, the players and staff of BACAU are hoping to cause a surprise as they have a clean record this season and wish to extend it.

Since all previous matches between BACAU and BLAJ have been very spectacular this far, the fans can look forward to an intriguing fixture. The organisers expect some 150 fans from Blaj to travel to Bacau for the match.

Florin Grapă, head coach of Știința BACAU: “I hope that we play much better than we did in the domestic competition against the very same opponent, because I want to win. That is my biggest wish, that we play a good game and win this match, no matter the final score and without worrying about the second leg.”

Darko Zakoc, head coach of CSM Volei Alba BLAJ: “To begin with, I would like to congratulate Stiinta BACAU on their qualification for the semi-finals, because, honestly, I did not expect them to make it, knowing the team of VK UP OLOMOUC, against which we played last season. It is great for Romania to have two teams in the semi-finals of a European Cup. I expect a very tough match for us, but I hope that both teams will provide a good performance for the public.”
