Three big matches to complete first round of #CLVolleyW quarterfinals
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Luxembourg, March 13, 2019. The quarterfinals of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women continue on Wednesday with an exciting set of three mouth-watering fixtures. Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO take on Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL in the ‘Match of the Week’ where the Italian ‘Panthers’ will be trying to use the home-court advantage to end the winning streak of the Turkish heavyweight. The Italian-Turkish rivalry will start even earlier in the afternoon when rookies Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI take on Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL. Titleholders VakifBank ISTANBUL travel to Russia to play Dinamo MOSCOW in an effort to continue a winning series that has lasted for almost three years. Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO (ITA) vs. Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL (TUR)

•    It is the first time Imoco Volley play Eczacibasi – even though the Turkish team paid a visit to Palaverde in Treviso back in 2017 when CONEGLIANO hosted the Final Four. Eczacibasi lost to VakifBank ISTANBUL in the semis, before edging Dinamo MOSCOW in the bronze medal match.
•    Imoco Volley lead the standings of the Italian national league, seven points clear of Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA with three matches left before the end of the regular season. Eczacibasi won the regular season of the Turkish league, which ended this past weekend.
•    The game features four players from the gold medal match of the last FIVB World Championship held in Japan. Serbia’s Tijana Bošković plays for Eczacibasi and is a reigning world champion, while Anna Danesi, Monica De Gennaro and Miriam Sylla (pictured above) of CONEGLIANO had to settle for the silver in Yokohama with Team Italy.
•    The ‘Match of the Week’ is a ‘Clash of the Titans’. Imoco Volley won Champions League silver in 2017 and bronze in 2018. Eczacibasi won the last edition of the CEV Cup, bronze from the 2017 Champions League – plus Club World Championship gold in 2015 and 2016 and CEV Champions League top honours in 2015.

Joanna Wolosz, setter and captain of Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO: “We have to deliver a top performance in order to win and we will give everything we have to achieve this goal. It is the first time that we are face to face against Eczacibasi and we are counting on the ‘surprise effect’, but we know that there will be two very tough matches against one of the best teams in the world. However, we are a good team too and we want to exploit the opportunity we have after qualifying from the pool phase to the quarterfinals.”

Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI (ITA) vs. Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL (TUR)

•    Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI are rookies in the CEV Volleyball Champions League and the European Cups as well. In their maiden appearance, they immediately qualified for the quarterfinals.
•    SCANDICCI have never played a match against a Turkish team. Last season, Fenerbahce played two Italian teams – Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO and Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA. The last match of Fenerbahce against an Italian team dates back to February 22, 2018, when NOVARA beat the ‘Yellow Angels’ 3-0.
•    Zoran Terzic is the coach of Fenerbahce, but he is also the head coach of the national team of Serbia. Terzic therefore knows very well the two Serbian players of SCANDICCI, Jovana Stevanovic and Bojana Milenkovic.
•    Samantha Bricio returns to play in Italy. The Fenerbahce spiker played in Italy with CONEGLIANO (2016-2018), winning the national league, the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup.
•    Bahar Toksoy Guidetti is a former Savino Del Bene player. The Turkish middle blocker in the 2015-2016 season played 13 games in the Italian championship, scoring as many as 115 points, including 11 aces and 26 blocks.

Carlo Parisi, head coach of Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI: “Fenerbahce are a strong team and they have further strengthened their roster with Dobriana Rabadzhieva. Fenerbahce have three high-level outside spikers and a very strong opposite. Moreover, Terzic can count on two strong middle blockers; Eda Erdem Dündar is also the captain of the Turkish national team and attacks very well. Fenerbahce serves very well and we have to be ready for this.”

Bahar Toksoy Guidetti, middle blocker of Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL: “When we qualified for the quarterfinals as first team of our group, we knew that the next games would be harder. SCANDICCI is an extremely good opponent. I think a nice game is waiting for us. We want to play good and show good Volleyball. Of course we want to win. We work hard for it. I hope we will go back from Italy with a good result.”

Merve Tanyel, outside spiker of Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL: “SCANDICCI is a good and fast team and they play with a different style than the Turkish teams we usually play with. We have been working hard to prepare for this game. We want to travel back from Italy with an advantage ahead of the return match and to qualify for the semis.”

Dinamo MOSCOW (RUS) vs. VakifBank ISTANBUL (TUR)

•    Dinamo have been preparing very thoroughly for this ‘big match’.
•    The coaching staff of Dinamo used their last match in the Russian league against Dinamo-Metar CHELYABINSK to provide all players on the roster with the opportunity to test their skills on the court.
•    The organisers expect a large crowd as VakifBank are the best team in the world and their roster includes many of the world’s top players.
•    VakifBank are four-time winners of the Champions League and are yet to lose a match in the competition since the 2016 final they lost to Italy’s Pomi CASALMAGGIORE.
