Bošković steers Eczacibasi to 3-0 victory over Italian ‘Panthers’
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Treviso, Italy, March 13, 2019. On Wednesday night, Tijana Bošković (pictured left) propelled Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL to a 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-22) victory in their first quarterfinal match with Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO, finishing with an impressive tally of 25 points to her name. As a result, the Turkish heavyweight are only two sets away from reaching the semis of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women as they vie for their first title since seizing the crown back in 2015 in Szczecin.

•    Imoco Volley claimed a 9-7 lead in the first set following an ace from Joanna Wolosz. However, Tijana Bošković scored as many as eight points in the first set to make sure that Eczacibasi would close the gap. The hosts looked a little nervous and Eczacibasi edged ahead at 16-13 as Imoco Volley were making too many mistakes. Miriam Sylla (seven points at the end of the set) helped Imoco draw level at 16-all but Bošković and Jordan Larson were very effective towards the end to secure a 25-21 win for the visitors.
•    With the support of more than 4,100 fans, Imoco Volley set the pace in the second set (10-8, 19-14) with a good performance of their opposite hitter Samanta Fabris. Raphaela Folie extended the Italian lead to 20-16, but Eczacibasi fought back to 23-all. Larson cancelled two set points for CONEGLIANO and Bošković (nine points in this set) did not miss the opportunity to seal a 27-25 win for Eczacibasi.
•    Sylla and Kimberly Hill propelled Imoco to a 5-1 and 10-5 lead in the third set but the Turkish team did not lose focus and their strong serving game put much pressure on the Italian receivers. Imoco Volley coach Daniele Santarelli tried to change the course of the game with some substitutions – Karsta Lowe, Valentina Tirozzi and Anna Danesi joined the game – but Larson & Co. did not leave any chance to the ‘Panthers’.
•    Bošković top scored in the match with 25 points followed by Kim Yeon-Koung with 14. Miriam Sylla registered 12 for Imoco Volley.

Joanna Wolosz, captain of Imoco Volley: “We did not play a good match; too many mistakes affected our game and we provided the Turkish team with too many opportunities. However, if we make less mistakes next week, we can still hope for qualification to the semis and I still believe in it.”

Marco Aurelio Motta, head coach of Eczacibasi VitrA: “We played a very good game, Bošković was great in the first two sets and our whole game worked well. But it is only the first game; now let us think about next Tuesday, as there will be another difficult battle to fight in Istanbul.”
