Rookies Vero Volley MONZA poised to make history in Russia
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men

Monza, Italy, March 25, 2019. On Wednesday, Vero Volley MONZA will be trying to make history as they play Belogorie BELGOROD in the very last act of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men. MONZA claimed a 3-2 home victory last week in Italy and have lost one match only in their maiden appearance in the European Cups – 2-3 to SC Portugal LISBOA in the semis before storming to a 3-0 victory in Lisbon. The Italian team will be hoping to continue their positive streak in the competition – whenever they have won the first round of their fixtures, they have followed up with another victory.

•    Donovan Dzavoronok of Vero Volley MONZA (pictured) is the top scorer in this year’s CEV Challenge Cup with an impressive tally of 136 points. John Gordon Perrin and Denis Zemchenok lead the way for Belogorie with 75 apiece.
•    Dzavoronok scored as many as 27 points in the first match with Belogorie, just as many as Oleh Plotnytskyi – who added six blocks to the tally for the Italians.
•    Belogorie are chasing the only European trophy still missing from their collection – they are three-time winners of the CEV Champions League and two-time winners of the CEV Cup.

Marco Rizzo, libero of Vero Volley MONZA: “We are ready to face Belogorie in another tough match. It will not be easy for sure but we want to win the second match as well and bring the trophy to Italy. They are extremely good at serving and blocking and their defence is good too. As we saw in the first match, they can come from behind, and this is why we need to remain focussed from start to end.”
