Belarusian youngsters working hard ahead of European qualifiers
2019 CEV U16 Women / U17 Men Volleyball European Championships

Minsk, Belarus, April 22, 2019. The U16 women’s and U17 men’s national teams of Belarus are currently preparing for the upcoming second round of European qualifications in one of the best sports complexes in Belarus – Raubichi.

The U16 women’s national team has undergone a number of changes recently, especially through the replacement of the coach at the helm of the group.  Now the team is under the supervision of the experienced Guennadi Alexandrovitch, who used to work with Belarusian national teams before and has been cooperating with clubs in Russia for a long time. His assistant, Anna Shevchenko, is a former player of the country’s leading team, Minchanka MINSK. The young girls are working not only on technical aspects of the game, but also on their chemistry on the court.  “Everything is perfect: the food, the accommodation. However, for some girls it is still hard physically to have two training sessions a day but we are working on that as good as we can,” Alexandrovitch said.

Belarus will contest Pool E in Stara Zagora taking on hosts Bulgaria as well as on the national teams of the Netherlands and Denmark with a spot in the Final Round co-hosted by Italy and Croatia at stake.

The U17 men started their training camp with friendly matches against Russia.  The team came together much earlier than the U16 women did and took a part in some international competitions such as Lokovolley and others. However, this does not mean we will not see some new faces in the line-up: “The kids of this year are good, so we try to rotate them and choose the best ones,” said Siarhei Liutynski, the coach of the team. “It is good that nobody has suffered any injury and everything is going as planned,” he continued.

Belarus will travel later this week to Montenegro to play there the home team as well as Greece and Austria for a spot in the Final Round due to take place later this summer in Sofia, Bulgaria.
