CEV Champions League Volley early rounds draw made
CEV Champions League Volley 2020

Luxembourg, June 26, 2019. The Drawing of Lots held on Wednesday at the ‘home of European Volleyball’ in Luxembourg City set the tone for a truly exciting 2020 edition of the elite CEV Champions League Volley. With 18 clubs per gender seeded in the 4th Round already as per the latest CEV Champions League Ranking List, the DOL involved 10 men’s and seven women’s teams all vying for a much-desired spot in the pool stage of the world’s most prestigious competition. The DOL for the 4th Round will be taking place on October 25 in Sofia, Bulgaria, in conjunction with the 2019 European Volleyball Gala.

The men’s tournament will get underway with four teams contesting the 1st Round, i.e. those representing the National Federations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, England and Portugal. The winners of the first-round fixtures will join another six teams – the 2019 national champions of Austria, Serbia, Finland, Montenegro, Belarus and Romania – for four second-round fixtures that lead into the third and last stage of the early rounds, whose eventual winners will secure a coveted spot in the pool phase along with the top 18 teams in Europe.

The results of the men’s DoL read as follows:

The women’s competition does not feature a first round, with seven teams contesting the second directly, where a lucky one got a bye. The four teams progressing to the third round will be locking horns in home and away matches to determine who makes it among the ‘cream of the crop’ of European Volleyball, i.e. the 18 teams already seeded in the fourth round.

The early rounds of the women’s CEV Champions League Volley feature the reigning national champions of Czech Republic, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Montenegro, Albania and Croatia. Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST of Hungary make their first appearance in the CEV Champions League Volley as Partizani TIRANA make history for Albania by becoming the first club from the Balkan country to participate in the Champions League since its establishment in the 2000-2001 season.

The results of the women’s DoL read as follows:
