Austria to play Turkey, Romania and North Macedonia ahead of #EuroVolleyM campaign
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men

Vienna, Austria, August 21, 2019. On Friday and Saturday, the Austrian men’s national team continue their preparations for CEV EuroVolley 2019 in Istanbul by playing two friendly matches against Turkey. The hosts claimed this year’s European Golden League title two months ago in Tallinn, Estonia.

“We have worked hard at our team’s training base in Steinbrunn. I am satisfied with what we have achieved so far, even though we have had to deal with small injuries. The matches against Turkey mark the start of the final stage of our preparations. Now it is all about to get in competition shape step by step,” explained head coach Michael Warm.

Another two friendly matches will take place next week in Craiova against Romania. Captain Peter Wohlfahrtstätter and his teammates, including star player Alexander Berger (pictured), will finalise their preparations in St. Pölten on September 5 and 6 by facing North Macedonia.

Austria made it to the final round of the European Championship for the first time through qualification after co-hosting the event in 2011 together with Czech Republic. Michael Warm’s squad features in Pool B in Antwerp and Brussels, alongside home team Belgium, Germany, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain.
