Eczacibasi aim high again with nice blend of young and experienced players
News from the clubs

Istanbul, Turkey, October 7, 2019. As it has become some sort of a tradition, Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL have started their activities for the still young 2019-2020 season with a press conference held at Kanyon shopping mall, Istanbul. The chairperson of the Board of Administration, Mr Faruk Eczacibasi, Members of the Board, players and the technical staff discussed the latest transfers as well as the goals set for the coming weeks and months.

Under the guidance of Marco Aurelio Motta, who has been at the helm of Eczacibasi for the last couple of years and is a true supporter of the Eczacibasi Academy, the Turkish powerhouse have worked on a roster including many familiar faces – such as Kim Yeon-Koung, Simge Şebnem Aköz, Tijana Boskovic, Gamze Kılıç, Beyza Arıcı and Lauren Gibbemeyer. Hande Baladin, Melis Durul, Yasemin Güveli, and Buse Melis Kara, who have all started their career in Volleyball at the Eczacibasi Academy, have returned ‘home’ this season. The star-studded Eczacibasi roster includes newly transferred Natalia Zilio Pereira, Carli Lloyd, Ergül Eroğlu and Saliha Şahin as well.

Mr Faruk Eczacibasi addressed the media emphasising that the club has once again brought together young and talented Turkish players and experienced foreign stars: “Hande Baladin, Yasemin Güveli, Buse Melis Kara and Saliha Şahin, who played at other clubs on loan, have returned home again. The national team performance of our young and talented players, who went to other clubs on a loan, so that they would get more time on the court, showed how right the decision was. As Eczacibasi Sports Club, we are happy about and proud of the contributions of our young players to the national team as a result of our investment of half a century devoted to Volleyball and young athletes.”

Mentioning that the team will once again contest top-level competitions such as the FIVB Club World Championship, CEV Champions League Volley and Vestel Venus Sultans League, he added, “Our target is to clinch the title from all events we participate in. We would like to thank Mizuno, Pegasus, Erikli, Dent Group, Koton, Öztiryakiler, KafeInGo and Allianz who will be sponsoring us this year and wish all the teams a good season without any injuries.”

Head coach Marco Aurelio Motta echoed the same feelings: “We have just finished a pre-season training of three months. During that period, we focused on the individual improvements of the athletes and their chemistry. Organising friendly matches with first division teams and the friendly tournament that we attended in Italy gave us a chance of assessing our performance day-by-day. As a team, we are focused on stabilising our game due to the very short amount of time that we had with all the players together as well as on showing our best at the Spor Toto Champions Cup that we will contest very soon.”

Team Manager Nalan Ural said that the team went through a productive pre-season period: “After a hard pre-season work, with the return of our new team captain Kim Yeon-Koung, our team is looking forward to opening the season at the Spor Toto Champions Cup. I believe that our significant new transfers, i.e. Natalia Zilio Pereira, Carli Lloyd, Ergül Eroğlu and Melis Durul and our powering young athletes like Hande Baladin, who spent a very productive year at Galatasaray becoming more and more experienced, will surely add to our strength this season.”

At the end of the press conference, the players took a fancy team picture sporting their outfits produced by Koton, the fashion sponsor of the team.
