Partizani TIRANA win in their first ever #CLVolleyW match
CEV Champions League Volley 2020

Luxembourg, October 9, 2019.  The Albanian team of Partizani TIRANA have won their maiden match in the CEV Champions League Volley - Women, beating the champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRČKO. The home team did lose the opening set, but regrouped to win the match in four (15-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20). The return will be played on the 16th of October in the city of Lukavac (BIH).

  • Partizani suffered the emotions in the first set, making errors in receiving the first ball. For BRČKO Alexandra Vajdova distinguished herself with some good attacks. The second set was a beautiful one. Partizani coach Nejat Sancak make some changes, which produced the desired result. Partizani defended better with Yeliz Başa and Romana Hudecova who made the difference.
  • The third set was dominated by Partizani, who created a 6-point advantage at the beginning. Again Hudecova and Başa led the home team. The fourth and the last set was a follow-up of the previous one, with Partizani who created a difference at the start and kept it until the end.
  • The women’s team of Partizani made their historic debut in the Champions League, playing the reigning national champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • This was also the maiden appearance for any Albanian team in the Champions League.
  • Nearly 400 fans were present in Feti Borova sports hall in Tirana to see this game and support the home team.
  • Romana Hudecova was elected the “MVP player” of the game, after scoring 22 points for Partizani TIRANA.
  • Alexandra Vajdova for BRČKO was the best scorer of the match, with 25 points to her name.

Nejat Sancak, Head Coach of Partizani TIRANA: "We lacked experience and this was felt in the first set, which served us to know the opponent as well. After that, we recovered and managed to win and I think we deserved it. The team grew after the first set. The return match is going to be tough, but I have faith in the team and the fact that we now know our rival better."

Smail Pezerovic, Head Coach of ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRČKO: "I think today the team to win is the one that was smarter, not the best. We will look at the mistakes we made today and learn the lessons. I think the set we won today will help us in the return match. The fatigue of the trip affected us in this loss, but it also applies to our rivals in the return match."
