Fenerbahce prove dominant at the net in 3-set win over Lodz
CEV Champions League Volley 2020 - Women

Luxembourg, November 28, 2019. The last game of the second leg for the CEV Champions League Women had an early end, with Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL putting on a dominant display at the net and beating Budowlani ŁÓDŹ 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-13).

Fenerbahce got out to a quick 5-1 start in the first set, and did not relinquish the lead for the entire game. They were simply too strong around the net for the attackers from Łódź, tallying up 8 blocks and 48 successful spikes in just three sets. Melissa Vargas and MVP of the game Brankica Mihajlovic led the way offensively for the Turkish club, both of them scoring 16 points with over 60% hitting. For Łódź, Ukrainian outside hitter Anastasiia Kraiduba led her team in scoring with 11 points. 

Both teams are now tied in Pool A at 1-1. Budowlani have a to face another tough team from Turkey in the next leg when they play Pool A leaders Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL. Fenerbahce play the 4th place Pool A team LP SALO. 

Zoran Terzic, coach of Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL: “Definitely, we didn’t expect the match to be so easy. But after the first set we played a very good game. We did a very good job. What can I say? 3-0 is a very important win for us. We need to think about the next opponent from Finland and I expect the same score in the next game.”

Melis Yilmaz, libero of Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL: “This match was important to us. Every match is important to us. The first match we played against Eczacibasi Vitra and we lost 2-3. But we have more matches to play. Today we won 3-0. We are so happy. I think we played very well.”
