DOL for prelims of next European Champs is completed
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, October 29, 2011. The Drawing of Lots for the preliminary rounds of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship and the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship was completed this morning in Luxembourg to be followed in the afternoon by the so-called calendar conference whereby the venues of the various tournaments will be determined. The DOL was opened by CEV Vice President Jan Hronek who addressed the attendees recalling that CEV President André Meyer was about to leave for Japan today to attend there the FIVB Women’s World Cup but nevertheless wanted to express his wishes for a very successful European campaign to all teams.
The DOL was performed by ESOC President Pierre Mulheims and ESOC Secretary Nico Hoeben accompanied on stage by two young members of Luxembourg junior women’s national team. Teams were pre-seeded as per their ranking in the previous edition and drawn accordingly to the various Pools.

The next European campaign is set to start in early January 2012 with the first round for the juniors, with the second stage of the qualification process running through April 10-15, 2012, before the starting field for the final rounds to be held in Turkey (women) and Denmark/Poland (men) is completed via a third round to be played in July. A total of 12 teams will compete in the final round of the Champs to be subdivided there in two groups of 6 each; the first and second ranked teams of these Pools will play crossed semifinals and then eventually go for the gold or bronze medal match. Classification matches will be played also for positions 5 to 8.

The DOL for the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship was preceded by a presentation delivered by Mr. Mikael Trolle, Technical Director of the Danish Volleyball Federation, who wanted to stress out the very specific concept the local organizers are developing to attract as many as possible to what shall actually turn into a unique and memorable Volleyball festival delivered by Denmark and Poland. The semis and finals will somehow write history as the matches will take place in the national football arena located in Copenhagen with the facilities of the stadium to be re-arranged in order to be able to welcome a Volleyball game for an experience to be remembered for a long time.
In comparison with the past the calendar for the preliminary rounds was revised by taking into account that the schedule is pretty tight in the Olympic year. Therefore the first round is set to take place in May 2012 while the second will follow in September before the grid for the final rounds is filled up as per the results of the home and away matches foreseen for the last step of the qualification process coming up in May 2013. The format for the final rounds in Denmark/Poland (men) and Germany/Switzerland (women) hasn’t changed, with 16 teams assigned to four Pools of 4 each, to be followed by Playoff matches, 1/4 finals, semis and finals at it was recently the case with the Championship held in Austria/Czech Republic and Serbia/Italy.

Detailed results of the DOL are available here for the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship and here for the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship; the files include also information about the hosting countries of the various Pools (see download boxes).
