Dinamo KAZAN downs DRESDNER SC to challenge Azerrail in 1/4 finals
2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women

Kazan, Russia, February 9, 2012. Russia’s Dinamo KAZAN qualified this afternoon for the 1/4 finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women after downing Germany’s DRESDNER SC in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-16) for the second time in seven days. With middle blocker Regina Moroz top scoring with 12 points, Dinamo is ready for the next round to play there Azerrail BAKU with a ticket to the final four being at stake.
As Dinamo had literally outclassed the German rookie last week, the fans there in Tatarstan were waiting for a similar showdown of their heroines. However, DRESDNER SC surprised the audience playing with great determination and fighting bravely for every single point. DRESDNER SC even went up 9:5 in the opening set but their defense steadily cracked down to pave the way with gold to the home side.
Dinamo displayed its very best Volleyball in the second set with Jordan Larson contributing aces, while Ekaterina Gamova stood out in attack, easily avoiding the German block (15:8). Even the libero of Dinamo, Ekaterina Ulanova (née Kabeshova) scored a point in that section of the game.
The slow pace of the game resulted into a drop of concentration and focus for Dinamo in set 3 but even though the Tatars committed many mistakes, still DRESDNER SC could not change the trend of the match. Irina Kuznetsova aced immediately after coming off the bench while Maria Borisenko blocked an attack of Judith Pietersen from the back row for the provisional 18:11. Dinamo finally wrapped it up in straight sets waiting now for the next round of action against Azerrail BAKU.
“We played better than in the first match but nevertheless we did not expect to win. Dinamo is too strong for us” says DRESDNER SC head coach Alexander Waibl. “It was a good match for us and we were patient enough to bring it home” adds the mentor of Dinamo, Rishat Gilyazutdinov.
