MULHOUSE steps closer to the Challenge Cup semifinals
2014 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Kamnik, Slovenia, February 4, 2014.  French side ASPTT MULHOUSE managed an away 3:1 (25-22, 13-25, 25-14, 25-22) victory over Slovenia’s Calcit KAMNIK in its first-leg match of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women quarterfinals.

In the first set of the match MULHOUSE took a six-point lead for 15-9, but the home team did not surrender.  Calcit fought back to narrow the gap down to 19-20, but setter Armelle Faesch’s strong serving in the end of the set helped the French team close it off at 25-22.  The second set went under the total domination of the home team.  The Slovenian side improved its performance in all elements of the game and allowed the opponents only 13 points in this part. But the third and the fourth sets again came down to the greater experience of the French team, whose great blocking managed to stop Calcit’s attacks.  Ana Lazarevic and Kristy Jaeckel became the top scorers of the match with 16 points each for the winning team, as Tjasa Turnsek scored 15 for the home side.

”We made too many serving mistakes,” said Gasper Ribic, coach of Calcit. ”I can congratulate the girls for the fight they put up.  They tried to do the best they can, but MULHOUSE deserved to win.  Perhaps we lacked enough faith that they can be overcome.  However, we will not go to France waving the white flag.”
