Antwerp, Belgium, December 5, 2014. Before the start of each 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League game, a special protocol is being applied as part of CEV’s Volleyball Way. Green Way campaign, where the new green ball is ceremoniously presented by one of the ball retriever kids to the first server. However, this week, before the home team Precura’s match against Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE, things in Antwerp happened a little differently.
Since this is a week dedicated to G-sports, for people with disabilities, in Antwerp, a G-athlete was the one chosen to participate in this heart-warming ceremony and to present the game ball for the first serve.
"This week we pay special attention to G-sports in our city," explained Precura’s general manager Tim Verreth. "We as a club are supporting this project, of course, as we have already supported this kind of actions before. For instance, some of our players went to a local championship and refereed a few games. We are now supporting this action with the goal to attend to more than 10,000 G-fans. People could send an SMS or send over an e-mail to mention that they are a G-fan. By starting this important game with a G-athlete we hope to attract the community to give its support to these people, who are also 'top athletes."
