Dinamo KAZAN rout Rabita to challenge Polish rookies for first place in Pool A
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Kazan, Russia, January 22, 2015. The matches in Pool A of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women continue to provide Volleyball fans with actions of the highest calibre and unpredictable results. On Tuesday Chemik POLICE – the leaders of the standings going into this round – surprisingly lost at home to Agel PROSTEJOV and on Thursday Russia’s standout Dinamo KAZAN needed only three sets to avenge their tie-break loss from some weeks ago in the first confrontation with last year’s bronze medallists Rabita BAKU of Azerbaijan. The match was short and one-sided (25-21, 25-10, 25-14) and by taking three points Dinamo got back in the race for first place in Pool A lagging two points behind POLICE with another round of matches still to come. With the success from tonight, Dinamo also secured their promotion to the Playoff round of Europe's elite club competition.

Dinamo KAZAN set the tone of the match right from the start (3:0) and even though the Puerto Rican captain of Rabita, Aurea Cruz, played with a lot of enthusiasm and determination, she also could not help reduce the gap from the local heroines to less than two points. The turning point of the opening set came after the second technical break as Evgeniya Startseva stood behind the service line and caused a lot of problems to the receivers of the team from Azerbaijan’s capital. The Russian setter extended the lead of Dinamo to three points and home star Ekaterina Gamova did not dissipate the opportunity to bring the first set to a close at 25-21.
After losing the first set, Rabita simply collapsed. On the other side of the net, the players of Dinamo played world-class Volleyball and Gamova in particularly killed attack after attack from every single corner of the playing area. Some mistakes made by the Tatars in the early stages of the third set re-opened the fate of the match though very briefly. Cruz, Foluke Akinradewo and Yoana Palacio Mendoza briefly dictated the tempo of the game for the Azerbaijani team but soon after that short blackout Dinamo got back on track and eventually finished the set and the match at 25-14.

“We played a great match where we executed everything we had planned in a perfect way,” said the head coach of Dinamo KAZAN, Rishat Gilyazutdinov. “We have remained very focused and determined throughout the whole match and this was also one of the keys to our success.”

Vasif Talybov, assistant coach of Rabita, said: “First of all I would like to congratulate Dinamo on their victory, they played really well tonight. However, our performance was really bad and it looked like we had just come here for some sightseeing. There was no element of the game that we can be happy with. When your serving and attacking are poor and you do not show the right fighting spirit, you can’t hope that good reception and defence will be enough to seize the day.”
