CEV launches new app on volleyball’s 120th birthday!
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, February 9, 2015.  There is no better way to celebrate volleyball’s birthday than to do something that takes the sport one step forward.  On the day exactly 120 years after William G. Morgan invented this fascinating game in Holyoke, the European Volleyball Confederation is launching a brand new tool to help develop and promote volleyball further towards new horizons.  The new CEV mobile app was released this afternoon and is now available globally free for sports fans to download, install and enjoy on their mobile devices.

The app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones and tablets.  It offers mobile users a great new way to follow European volleyball whenever and wherever they are with their new-era gadgets.  Along with the latest news from CEV, the app offers competition schedules, results, standings, match statistics, live scores, videos, photos, information about teams and players, and a lot more…  It also includes an integration of the official CEV social media accounts that have been gaining more and more popularity after the confederation’s Facebook page, Twitter handle and YouTube channel were officially launched some three and a half months ago.

“This app helps us make another step forward in delivering information on our competitions and other activities both to our current fans and to potential new fans among the general public, with this goal being achieved by implementing a series of user-friendly, easy-to-navigate and intuitive features,” CEV President André Meyer said.  “After joining the world of social media in October and launching the Stars in Motion videos at the beginning of this season’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League, we are happy to provide our fans with yet another innovative tool by the time Europe’s elite club competition is entering its most exciting stages.  It is also quite symbolic that we are releasing this app on volleyball’s 120th birthday.”

The CEV app is indeed being released one day prior to the start of the playoff stage in both the men’s and the women’s Champions League, bringing those exciting matches closer to the public.

The European Volleyball Confederation developed the app in close partnership with LAOLA1 Multimedia GmbH, whose Managing Director Rainer Geier expressed his satisfaction.  “We are happy that we continue to expand our long-term cooperation with the European Volleyball Confederation,” he said.  “This confirms and further cements our multimedia expertise and our long-term strategy.  At the same time, the development and the launch of the official CEV app represent a great boost of motivation for our team.  The app provides users with an optimised design to enjoy a clear overview of the latest and most important information that fans are looking for, such as live scores, statistics and highlight videos. I am proud to say that, together with the CEV, our team has developed yet another high-level product.”
