Turkish giants VakifBank and Fenerbahce go for stellar derby in CL Playoffs 6
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Istanbul, Turkey, March 3, 2015. VakifBank and Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL are set to contribute to the most anticipated game coming up this week for the Playoffs 6 of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. The Turkish derby is indeed the ‘Match of the Week’ among the three scheduled for this Thursday and an English live commentary of the actions from Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall will be made available on LAOLA1.tv VakifBank just got their revenge from last year’s final match by seeing off 2014 gold medal winners Dinamo KAZAN of Russia in the Playoffs 12 but the Yellow Angels of Fenerbahce Grundig will be a hard nut to crack on the way to the Final Four tournament scheduled for April 4-5 in Szczecin, Poland.

VakifBank and Fenerbahce Grundig account all together for three titles in Europe’s elite competition with Guidetti’s team having seized the crown in 2011 and 2013, whilst the Yellow Angels topped the charts in 2012. In the Playoffs 12 VakifBank first claimed a 3:2 away victory over Dinamo KAZAN and then routed their opponents in three consecutive sets in Turkey to make it to the next-to-last stage of the competition. VakifBank and Fenerbahce Grundig have already crossed their ways three times this year in Turkish competitions with VakifBank boasting a 3:0 win-loss record.

Waiting for the return match scheduled for March 12, VakifBank and Fenerbahce will first test each other’s skills on Thursday night. “These two matches will be quite challenging,” says VakifBank’s mentor Giovanni Guidetti. “Both teams know each other very well. I am sure that we are going to follow two world-class matches. The fact that both matches will be played here in Istanbul makes it even more exciting for the Turkish audience and I am sure that the fans of both sides are aware of this. We are ready both physically and mentally. We are confident and feel ready for this battle.”

The Brazilian-born star opposite of VakifBank, Sheilla Castro (pictured), adds: “Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL is a very strong team and we know them from the matches we played in the national league. They have very good players on their roster. We have been working really hard to make it to this stage of the competition and we are well prepared for this double header with Fenerbahce. We know that it is going to be tough but our sole goal once we square off on court is to win.”
