TRABZON Idman Ocagi outclass inexperienced Swiss in Challenge Cup quarter-finals
2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Aesch, Switzerland, February 11, 2016. Turkey’s TRABZON Idman Ocagi cruised to a speedy 3-0 win (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) on Wednesday night in their first matchup with Sm’ AESCH Pfeffingen of Switzerland on schedule for the quarter-finals of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women.

As many as 1,200 fans were in attendance for the match where AESCH were able to keep the score tight in the opening stages of the first set before the pre-favourite Turks broke away to claim a commanding 16-6 lead at the second technical time-out, mainly via the help provided by their star players Sanja Malagurski and Kremena Kamenova. With a much more experienced roster than the Swiss hosts from the suburbs of Basel – on average there is a 10-year difference – TRABZON easily claimed the opening set by 25-15.

The home fans were hoping that it could only get better for the hosts but the visitors from Turkey easily claimed the first points of the second set and even changing setter did not show any effect for the Swiss team. The spikers of Sm’ AESCH continued to have a hard job in trying to find a way through the Turkish block and the second set ended in another landslide victory for TRABZON (25-14).

The Turks are making their European debut this season after winning the 2015 edition of the BVA Cup and they continued to set the pace of the game also in the third set. Too many service errors and problems in reception by the Swiss hosts made things easy for TRABZON that comfortably claimed also the third set by 25-15.

Home coach Timothy Lippuner was quite laconic after the match: “Tonight we got to see a young team playing an opponent that can rely on decades of experience,” he said.
