News from the National Federations

Budapest, Hungary, February 26, 2016. The Volleyball family mourns the death of Dr Endre Holvay, one of the founding fathers of the sport in Europe, who was at the helm of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation from 1955 to 1963 and then again from 1974 through to 1980. Dr Holvay passed away on Friday morning, aged 97.

Dr Endre Holvay was born in Budapest on November 4, 1918. His Volleyball journey began when playing for Kispesti Elektromos between 1946 and 1949 before he started working for the Hungarian Volleyball Federation.

In 1955 he was elected President of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation and with it he also got more and more involved in international Volleyball. Holvay was twice a Vice President of the FIVB (1959-1961 and 1970-1972). He was also a FIVB Technical Delegate for decades and in this capacity he attended as many as 10 editions of the Olympic Games between 1964 and 2000.

The CEV and President Aleksandar Boričić join the Hungarian Volleyball Federation and all members of the Hungarian Volleyball family in mourning the death of a charismatic leader who played a leading role in the development of Volleyball in its early days.
